SECTION 3: Treatment Updates in COVID-Guidelines and Recommendations

Patients with COVID 19 on concomitant medications such as inhaled corticosteroids for underlying medications should not discontiue these medications during acute management of COVID-19 unless discontinuation is recommended.

A study has shown that adult patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma on high doses of inhaled corticosteroids were at a higher risk of mortality than those who received other inhaled medications.

Patients with COVID 19 who require nebulized corticosteorids, precautions should be taken to minimize the potential for transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the home and health care settings.
